Look, I really don’t get how I, someone who doesn’t even like the show, can point out such obvious things about the characters. Seriously, are you guys too busy salivating over their looks to notice anything else in the show?

Dean Winchester might be many things, but dumb he is not. I really don’t fucking get how out of a number of things you could label him, you’d pick ‘dumb’.

Dean never had time to apply himself to school because he was too busy raising Sam because his neglectful father wouldn’t. He didn’t have time to commit to school when he was too busy trying to make Sam live a ‘normal’ life and keep him safe from the monsters/bad guys that were constantly chasing them.

DESPITE being busy playing the role of dad/big brother/hunter, Dean still manages to:

1. Be able to fix cars and other machinery, something Sam can’t do.
2. Made an EMF detector out of a broken walk-man, something Sam wouldn’t be able to do.
3. Fix and design weapons - I don’t know if Sam can or has done this, but either way, a ‘dumb’ person wouldn’t be able to do this.
4. Has managed to evade, trick, and kill bad guys and monsters that were much stronger and (supposedly) smarter than him.
5. Is usually the one to make battle plans that end up saving himself or everyone. Example, when going to kill Eve, Dean was the one to swallow Phoenix Ash - not Sam. Dean is constantly doing this, planning ahead and out smarting the enemy, something a ‘dumb’ person wouldn’t be able to do.
6. Is great at lying and making up stories that sound legit and enable he and Sam to get into places to gather more information about a case/monster/etc.

These are just the things at the top of my head. Now, please explain to me how someone who didn’t have time to study or go to school can do all of this? If you want to be technical, Dean would likely be smarter than Sam because he uses critical thinking while Sam tends to go by what he knows in books. There is nothing wrong  with going by what you know by books, but when you don’t have a book or computer to go by and it calls for critical thinking, Dean is almost always the one that uses it successfully.

I’m not saying Sam is dumb or can’t use critical thinking, but it’s pretty stupid to say just because he reads books and has college education that he’s the smart one, especially when Dean was never even given a chance to succeed in school. One could argue that being book smarts is the lesser of the smarts since anyone can read and memorize things, whereas street smarts and critical thinking (something Dean has lots of) requires a clever mind. 

On to the subject of Dean and women, Dean was never one to brag or talk about sex unless the situation presented itself. Dean simply saying out of the blue “I love women! I was having sex with them!” IS stupid because although I agree that Dean likes sex and women, the only time he becomes a pervert who won’t shut up about it is when Sera writes him. 

I have 6 messages in my ask stating that Dean wanting a family isn’t selfish. Since I don’t feel like making another post, I’ll address it here. 

Dean wanting a family when he is a hunter that constantly has bad guys on his tail IS selfish. If Dean was with another hunter, yes I could see that. But to bring a normal person, with a KID no less (especially when Dean has said he hated the way he and Sam were raised and couldn’t have a normal childhood) is selfish and I know the original Dean would never have gone out with Lisa (especially when she was just a one night stand and SHE HAS A FREAKING KID). Dean is lonely and wants to be with someone, we all know this much, but he also isn’t an idiot and would never go out with someone that might end up dead because they are with him.

But no, Sera wanted them to be together so badly. It’s sad to watch because you can just fucking tell by season six that she was trying to make them work but slowly knew it wouldn’t logically work out, so she had their memories erased (which is stupid in itself because if Castiel could erase memories, why didn’t he erase Sam’s memories of hell? Or erase Dean and Sam’s memories of them finding out he was working with Crowley?).

No, Sera is a terrible, terrible writer who raped the hell out of Sam, Dean, and Castiel’s characters. If not for Ben and the others, Castiel would be seen as a weapon instead of a friend, and Dean would be a perverted stereotypical man who can’t be smart because he likes sex.

Anyways, I hope this clears some things up. If you still think Dean is dumb, then you’re dumb, sorry.

And here I was just about to make a post talking about how I refused to believe that Dean didn’t know who HP Lovecraft was.

Dean is not what I would call “book smart”, but I agree with this post. Intelligence does not depend on knowing literature, or being able to do long mathematical equations. Dean has applicable “street” smartness. He has survival skills, awareness, mechanical skills, and many more practical skills beyond that.

When you add all of those types of intelligence up, the fact that Sam is able to hunt down particular passages and work out the book end of things doesn’t hold a candle to the command and conquer, hands-on lifestyle that Dean leads. Dean’s intelligent. Very intelligent. In a practical application, hands-on, life wisdom kind of way — but it’s STILL. INTELLIGENCE.
